Advanced Variable GeoAuthor: A-kun Advanced Variable Geo. Hmm, where to start? Looking at it like a serious reviewer, I'm left feeling as though this is the first of three OVAs. It has so much unexplored potential and that's what truly frustrates me. It had as many, if not more, unexplored storylines as most of the other anime that were based on fighting games. It leaves you thinking that it's going to be a lot like Galaxy Fraulein Yuna, but I've heard nothing of a continuation. Yuka Takeuchi, Satomi Yajima, Jun Kubota, Manami Kusonoki, Reimi Jahana, Kaori Yanase, Chiho Masuda, Elena Goldsmith, all of them get a fair bit of screen time, a true rarity with that many characters. Not often do you see screen time so evenly distributed. Usually you'll just see a cursory nod to a character as if to say "Yeah, yeah, they exist, who cares?", but in VG, each character gets introduced and given some time to develop their character. If only other stories could be the same. The story is pretty involving for the first-time viewer. Flashy moves, bouncy fighters, and best of all, NO MALE LEAD. Well, there are three male characters in the entire story, but only two are named (one you have to listen carefully for), and that's the best part to me. Too many martial arts videos have dominant male leads that are overly muscled, are the real focus of the story and usually defeat the bad guy single-handed (Battle Arena Toshiden or Dark Stalkers, anyone?). Variable Geo just has a lot of introspection, fighting and nifty-ass attacks. Plus, you can hate the living crap out of the real villainess! It's not totally original, but definitely a breath of fresher air. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this. Oh yeah, and EYE CANDY GALORE! Brief nudity, some lingerie, comments on bust size, playful groping (if such a thing doesn't exist, this just invented it), cool fights, nifty moves... This has it all! Overall Rating: 9
