Agent Aika - Silent CityAuthor: Andrey Dravinski In the future, Earth goes the way of Waterworld (although with remarkably less devastation, less crappy actors, and no Kevin Costner. Whew!) In its place are a few floating cities that manage to survive, despite the catastrophe. In this new world, one of the most profitable, if not the most dangerous job is salvage diving, where companies pay pilots to recover lost technology for profit. (Panties!) These pilots are skilled (panties), live on the edge (up skirt shot), and demand large salaries. (More panties!) One of the more reputable salvage divers (loads o' panties) goes by the name of Aika. She, her partner, and her trusty "Battle Bustier" (I kid you not) go around searching for artifacts....but are ultimately targeted by some (holy honkin' loads of up skirt shots) evil corporation that tries to kill (so many freakin' panty shots I'm gonna be sick) them and take their operation...and so on and so forth. If that intro didn't give you any hints so that you can see why this anime is flawed on so many levels, God help us all. At first I was hoping that this would be some good take on the whole "Waterworld" premise with the possibility of some sexy women. Yet, within a few minutes I was treated to some of the most simultaneously disgusting, disturbing, yet strangely amusing scenes I'd ever seen. The story itself is not bad, and the plot line moves around at a good pace, and really is not that cheesy. However, any decent attempt to appreciate this movie has me feeling dirty all over. The reason why, obviously, is the prodigious amount of panty shots. Now, normally I'm all for a little revealing attire on the female characters, it kind of is in every anime I've seen, and I have seen a lot. But I'm not talking about just a few naughty shots here and there, or maybe an ubiquitous "bathroom scene" that populates so many other animes, I'm talking about flagrant panty shots in nearly every scene, and on nearly EVERY SINGLE female character. So, instead of a nice fight scene, this is kind of what it feels like: Punch...panty...kick...panty....extended up skirt shot....gunshot....panty...kick...panty....you get it. Every time the anime tries to take itself seriously, one either gets disgusted or laughs the heck out loud. Unfortunately, that was kind of how I found myself looking at the whole movie. I really don't understand what the heck the creators had in mind with this movie. Hentai-lite? Soft-Porn? Or just bad taste? I'm beginning to side with the last one here. In any case, if you're the kind of person who craves non-stop panty shots above all other aspects of an anime. By Jove, you'll LOVE this one. Otherwise, steer clear of it by all means.
