Alexander Senki (Reign)Author: Ryoma While I grew up, I became a big fan of Peter Chung's work on Aeon Flux since his character designs weren't typical of either anime or American animation. With Rintaro backing Peter Chung up on his first anime title, the show "Alexander Senki" would easily be a hit. At first I wondered how much of Peter Chung's style had to be cut down for this show. Surprisingly, not much. The original story of Alexander the Great is kept intact, but the visual medium chosen for this show is the real draw. Chung apparently thought he had to draw his designs as realistically as possible, but when Rintaro took a look at it, he wanted Chung to be more creative and have fun with the designs. Thus, Peter Chung's style remains intact. The show moves at a generally fast pace, but some episodes are slower than others. Also, this 13 episode OAV doesn't show all of Alexander the Great's life; it only covers from his birth to after his victory in India. Ironically enough, the English dub includes the same voice actor who did the voice of Trevor from Aeon Flux and plays a similar role in the show. However, for no reason, he is replaced after episode 4, which was a big dissapointment. The Japanese language is quite good, but a little louder than the English version. Overall, if you like anime like Escaflowne, you should have no problem warming up to this series. Others should atleast try the series to see if they like it. You might be surprised.
