BerserkAuthor: Escaeva Well, let me start off by saying that this is one of the most insensly epic series I have ever seen. I have seen lots of anime, and this sits up with Evangelion and Escaflowne in my opinion. Simply put, Berzerk is possibly the most mature, intelligent, and just flat-out kick-butt fantasy series to ever come across the market. Riveting and spellbinding from episode to episode, it's an absolute wonder that this series hasn't been licensed for US release yet. Exploring themes like child abuse and schizophrenia, Berzerk is certainly a major departure from other common anime fantasy series; it goes where most fear to tread. Even though it takes place in a fantasy realm, there's nothing cliché about this series. There's no fish-out-of-water heroine or cutsey sidekicks or fuzzy animals or magical treasures or steam-powered mecha. It's hardcore fantasy at it's most brutal and realistic. It should be stressed that this show is absolutely not appropriate for anyone under the age of 17 or anyone with either a weak stomach or a weak mind - in addition to the graphic physical violence, the mental trauma that the characters go through is hard to watch at times. Thanks to the excellent animation, superb character design and breathtaking music (Especially the masterpiece "Berzerk: Forces"), all of this comes to life in striking detail. If you're a big fantasy fan and like mature, adult stories that aren't afraid to explore even the darkest pits of the psyche, then Berzerk is for you. Unfortunately, the series isn't available here in the states yet; but I highly recommend finding a way to discover Berzerk for yourself. Overall Rating: 10
