Boogiepop is, without a question, the BEST anime series I have ever seen. Its story goes beyond the levels of any other anime (of the like) before it. Say goodbye to "Serial Experiments Lain" if you thought that was complicated.

The show starts out just as any other confusing series begins - one enigmatic event being the back-bone of the entire show's plot - in this case, a large beaming light shining out of a building and sending a huge shock-wave across the city around it. There are many things explored in this series: suicide, evolution, death, life, technology, the mentality of children, etc.

Nearly every episode adds a new character that has been affected by the "light" and we get to see how that affected that person. Usually it is a form of psychic power.

I could try to describe the plot, but I would have to write a novel to do that. Just watch this series with an open mind and open heart and you'll be surprised just how much you'll be enjoying it.

Even throughout all of the supposed chaos that this series presents, if you look closely enough you'll see that this show is really about people growing up in a far too complicated world.

The animation style is simple, but effective. The simplicity makes you pay more attention to the story and less to the eye candy... though the show has plenty of that as well.

One aspect of the show that really impressed me was the soundtrack. It is, quite simply, spellbinding! If you want to hear good electronic music, look no further and pick up the OST's. Boogiepop Phantom's music is far better than your average anime soundtrack.

This series also has a lot of atmosphere. There is not one scene where the show doesn't lose it's edge or mood.

All in all, this is my favorite anime of all time. If you even have the slightest interest in quality animation with an intelligent story line, memorable characters, and amazing music, then you owe yourself to check this one out.
