Bubblegum CrisisAuthor: Mark McPherson It may have been produced in the early 90's, but Bubblegum Crisis was pretty much the last word in 80's style anime. The last chance to hear 80's music and see afros. But it's much more than that. Bubblegum Crisis is very reminisent of series like Votoms and Mospeda. It's your tiny mecha series. Actually, the mecha are suits. Hard suit with weapons. Four women must dress themselves up in the Hard Suit under the name Knight Sabers in order to stop the dreaded Boomers of the evil Genome Corporation. There is the club singer, Priss, the perky pink-haired cop, Nene, the freelance woman, Lina, and the sexy clothing seller, Sylia. Each of these episodes feel like a monster of the week episode. There is usually some good action and a great story. The only problem is that there are only 8 episodes. Not quite enough to feed my need for action. Overall, Bubblegum Crisis will either be a case of great innovation in mecha or a too-little-too-late situation for others. I would recommend renting this series first. Overall Rating: 7 |
